What to do?

There is so much to do just a short distance away. We are centrally located which makes taking day trips very easy to do. Here are some ideas to keep you busy.

HORSEs

The Tryon International Equestrian Center is a scenic 30 minute ride away. There are 7 restaurants and events every Saturday night with "Saturday Night Lights" or just go out and look at the horses. tryon.com Craving to get on a horse, take a ride at either Riverside Stables riversideridingstables.com or Cedar Creek cedarcreekstables.com both just right around the corner

Tiny Towns

Nestled in these mountains are many small towns with delicious owner/operated restaurants (no chains here), adorable shops, many with locally made items great for souvenirs and charming parks. Driving the back roads to get there is just as interesting as the towns themselves.

History buffs?

Did you know the first one dollar gold coin to be minted in the United States was done so by Christopher Bechtler in 1832 here in Rutherfordton? His mine is just a short distance from Camp Serene with a nice walking trail and plaques describing the site. www.visitnc.com/listing/KnDP/bechtler-mint-site-historic-park

Also, the deciding battle of the American Revolution has roots in this area with the Overmountain Men. You can follow their trail through our area. These are just a couple of historical adventures.

With some of the purest water in the country along with fertile soil, the brewing and wine making industries have really taken off. Asheville, in fact, has been voted Beer Capital for many years. Sierra Nevada has opened a second location on the other side of Hendersonville and with all the apple orchards in the area, cideries are popping up as well. An area in Henderson County just received it's AVA (American Viticultural Area) certification which is a designated wine grape-growing region in the United States.
